About Fred Klein

Fred Klein has been interested in cameras since the age of eleven, when he asked his father if he could take over shooting the family movies. From that time on, he filmed all the family functions with 16mm and Super 8mm film cameras.

In 1978 with the invention of BETA and VHS recorders, he switched to videotape. His first camera only shot black and white video. It was connected to a VCR by a fifty foot cable. Fred used it to record his three children playing in the backyard.

The next year, Fred bought a color camera and a portable VCR to tape family weddings and parties, but just for fun.

Fred's first professional job came in 1981 when a neighbor asked if he would videotape a friend's Bar Mitzvah. That soon led to more work, and Fred began videotaping on weekends, while working during the week as a sales rep for a publishing company.

Fred found that he liked videotaping events more than his work in sales. He left publishing in 1986 for full time video work.

With business growing, he moved into his current offices in Northbrook in 1988. Fred's wife, Bonnie, came on board to run the front office.

Fred is on the board of IVA, the Illinois Videomakers Association. And he's a member of WEVA, the Wedding and Event Videographer's Association.

Fred won a Finalist Award for his Wedding Love Story in 1997 for the Sanchez wedding. In 1999 he won a Bronze Award in Bar Mitzvah Creativity for the Resnick video.

Fred loves his work, and when he retires, instead of lying on a beach or going fishing, he'd like to be videotaping a wedding (or maybe playing golf).
